Skateboarding creates the surface. I decide whether it holds an image.
Sessions is an ongoing photographic project begun in 2007 and continued since my return to skateboarding in 2025.
Tricks and repetition leave scratches, abrasion and worn graphics—marks never intended to form an image. Connected to skateboarding since 1988, I read them as traces of movement and commitment.
I photograph selected boards on 4×5-inch film, leaving the marks untouched and keeping the colours close to the original. The composition begins with framing.
After laboratory development, I work with scans, test crops and printed studies. Some compositions convince me immediately; others need time—or lose their effect.
Taken out of the context of skateboarding, the final images are abstract compositions in their own right. They arise from chance and precise observation. At most, one work can be created from a single board. Sometimes, not even one.
These photographs document the process, not the finished artworks.
